Keyloggers belong to the group of spyware malware.
Initially, in fact, their role was limited to what they got their name from, that is, recording strings of characters entered by the user on the keyboard. Today, however, they are sophisticated programs that can monitor almost any kind of our activity on the computer, including:
- encrypt connections,
- take screenshots,
- record mouse cursor movement,
- capture the content of forms filled out on websites (including encrypted ones),
- capture audio from a microphone,
- save the contents of our clipboard
and many more.
They are often part of more complex trojans and are very difficult to detect. They can infect not only a computer, but also a smartphone or tablet.
Easy-to-use ways to avoid keylogger infections are frequent scanning of devices with antivirus programs and using password generators.
